JITUME CENTRE OPENS DOORS TO EMPLOYMENT

In a significant boost to digital inclusion and youth empowerment, the national government has officially launched the Ndumberi Jitume Centre in Kiambu County, reinforcing the critical role of digital literacy in today’s economy.

Presiding over the launch, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, H.E. William Kabogo Gitau emphasized that digital skills are no longer optional but essential for employment and self-reliance in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

“This centre is more than just a facility—it is a gateway to opportunities. We are committed to ensuring our youth are equipped to compete and thrive in the digital economy,” CS Gitau stated during the event.

The launch coincided with the graduation of over 200 youths from the 2025 Jitume Modules Cohort, who completed intensive training in high-demand fields such as Virtual Assistance, Digital Marketing, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analysis, Financial Literacy and Data Entry. The graduates were challenged to immediately apply their skills and tap into the growing realm of online work, both locally and internationally.

Inspiring testimonials from beneficiaries highlighted the tangible outcomes of the Jitume Programme. Several trainees shared how they have already secured online jobs, started freelance careers, and generated sustainable income—demonstrating that with the right skills, the digital economy offers viable pathways to financial independence.

One graduate, Faith Wanjiru, noted: “Before this training, I had no direction. Today, I work as a virtual assistant for an international company. This programme has truly changed my life.”

In a show of sustained commitment, CS Gitau donated additional computers to the Ndumberi Jitume Centre, a move set to expand training capacity and enable more young people to access digital skilling.

Local leaders present echoed the sentiment, reaffirming that investments in digital skills are investments in Kenya’s future. They stressed that empowering youth with technology competencies is key to driving innovation, reducing unemployment, and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

For young people across Kenya, especially in rural and peri-urban areas like Ndumberi, such centres represent accessible, practical avenues to gain market-relevant skills without having to relocate or incur high training costs.

As Kenya advances its Digital Economy Blueprint and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), initiatives like the Jitume Programme are essential bridges connecting talent with opportunity—ensuring no young Kenyan is left behind in the digital revolution.
