CONCLAVE TO ELECT NEW POPE ENTERS DAY 2

133 cardinals from 70 nations are gathered inside the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, Italy for the second day of the conclave which will elect a new pope. Black smoke billows from the chimney above the Chapel, meaning the electors have not yet chosen a new Pope
The first ballot on the first day of the conclave on Wednesday failed, resulting in a plume of black smoke –fumata nera in Italian – from the chapel’s chimney. White smoke – fumata bianca – will signify that a new pope has been elected, as will the ringing of the bells of St. Peter’s Basilica.
As the second day of voting begins, the next person elected to succeed the late Pope Francis will need at least 89 votes in order to achieve the majority from the College of Cardinals.
