FATHER ALLOIS BETT LAID TO REST
Slain Catholic priest Allois Cheruiyot Bett has been laid to rest. Father Allois of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, in Elgeyo Marakwet, was shot dead by bandits in Baringo after attending a pastoral mission.
The funeral service for slain priest was held at Terige High School in Nandi County. He was buried at the Holly Family Parish Ol’ Lessos cemetery.
Religious and political leaders in attendance among them Nandi Governor Stephen Sang and his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart, Wisley Rotich, have called for urgent conclusion of the priest’s murder probe and arrest of culprits.
The leaders questioned why security agencies took just three days to arrest suspects in the recent fatal shooting of an MP in Nairobi but have failed to arrest Fr. Bett’s killers. They also want the government ensure peace prevails in Kerio Valley warning politicians against reckless remarks ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Catholic Church has condemned the killing of two priests, father John Maina Ndegwa who was until his death the priest in charge of St. Louis parish Igwamiti in Nyahururu and father Allois Bett. They are demanding an inquiry into the deaths of the two priests.
