HUAWEI DIGITRUCK BRINGS FREE DIGITAL SKILLS TRAINING TO GICHUGU YOUTH

In a significant boost for digital inclusion in rural Kenya, the innovative Huawei DigiTruck program has officially launched at Gichugu Training and Vocational College (TVC), bringing free digital skills training to local youth.

The launch ceremony was presided over by Hon. Robert Gichimu Githinji, who emphasised the program’s importance in preparing young people for the digital economy.

The Huawei DigiTruck represents a groundbreaking approach to digital literacy – a fully-equipped, mobile classroom that travels directly to remote communities. The initiative is implemented in partnership with Ajira Digital, offering 10 days of completely free training in essential digital skills and online work opportunities.

What makes the DigiTruck unique?

  • Mobile & Solar-Powered: Built from a refurbished shipping container, it operates independently with solar power
  • Fully Equipped: Contains laptops, smartphones, and reliable internet connectivity
  • Community-Focused: Designed specifically to reach underserved rural areas
  • Proven Track Record: First launched in Kenya in 2019 under Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative

Leadership Perspectives

Hon. Robert Gichimu Githinji highlighted the program’s transformative potential:

“Technology is the future, and our young people must be part of it. The DigiTruck ensures that no one is left behind in the digital revolution. This initiative brings crucial training directly to our community, eliminating geographical barriers to digital education.”

Joseph Kimemia, Principal of Gichugu TVC, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the program:

“This partnership opens new doors for our students and the surrounding community. We are proud to host a program that transforms lives through digital empowerment. It aligns perfectly with our institution’s vision of producing tech-savvy graduates ready for the modern workforce.”

This initiative represents a crucial step toward equitable digital access in Kenya. By bringing training directly to rural youth, the program not only teaches valuable skills but also opens doors to online employment opportunities that transcend geographical limitations.

The Gichugu launch marks another milestone in Kenya’s journey toward comprehensive digital literacy, ensuring that youth in even the most remote areas can participate fully in the digital economy.
