KENYA LAUNCHES FIVE YEAR EDUCATION PLAN
The government of Kenya plans to employ 2,000 technical trainers and instructors in the next five years. This is according to the National Education Sector Strategic Plan 2023-2027 launched on Thursday 6 July 2024.
Open universities and research institutes will be expanded as part of the strategy. The ministry of education also intends to employ 116,000 primary school teachers, construct 16,000 classrooms for Junior Secondary Schools by December 2024. Also in the pipeline is provision of meals for 6 million school going children.
During the launch at the Kenya School of Government, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said implementation of the National Education Sector Strategic Plan 2023-2027 is estimated to cost KES 5.02 trillion. Of the amount the government will allocate 3.47 trillion shillings, while the deficit will be outsourced from development partners.
