KENYANS DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ALBERT OJWANG’
Less than 24 hours after the death of X influencer Albert Omondi Ajwang’ in police custody and calls for justice for the teacher turned digital activist abound. The National Police Service through a press statement said it had interdicted the officer commanding station (OCS) Central police station, the duty officer on duty during the night in question ,the cell sentry on duty at the time of the incident ,all officers who were on duty at the report office that night and any other officer found to have been on duty or otherwise involved during the incident.
Despite the latest action by the national police service and a launch of a probe into his death, Kenyans are demanding answers on actions taken by police from his arrest in Homabay County on Saturday, his overnight transfer to Nairobi to Central police station without proper orders from court and his mysterious death.
While condemning the incident the Supreme council of Kenya Muslims in a statement said “as Muslim leaders and clerics, we express deep concern over the tragic death of Albert Ojwang while in police custody. We stand with the family and wider public in calling for truth, justice and accountability.
The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops general secretariat in a statement said “We strongly support the directive by the inspector general to interdict officers linked to this case and urge that investigations be swift , transparent and free from interference. No one is above the law and those found culpable must face the full force of the law.
The Law Society of Kenya in a statement said “the failure to adhere to the law and due process discloses the existence of ill-will , bad faith and malice in the arrest of Albert Ojwang. The entire predicament encountered by Mr. Ojwang prior to his death is consistent with a criminal conspiracy which must be fully investigated and prosecuted. The National police service owes Kenyans an explanation on why Albert Ojwang was handled with such animosity that met his death while detained in police custody”.
On Monday a group of activists held protests outside City Mortuary demanding justice for the late X influencer. Online #Justice4AlbertOjwang trended for the better part of the day as Kenyans on X demand justice for Ojwang.
The police account Sunday on the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death which claimed that Albert hit his head on the wall cell were refuted by his family.
A post mortem to ascertain the cause of his death was postponed to Tuesday June 10, 2025.
