MERU COUNTY GETS FIRST WOMAN DEPUTY GOVERNOR

Linda Gakii Kiome has been sworn in as the first woman Deputy Governor and the fourth Deputy Governor of Meru County.

Kiome, a lawyer by profession, took oath of office at a ceremony presided over by Meru Law Courts Judge Justice Stephen Kithinji at Mwendantu grounds in Meru town. Governor Isaac Mutuma was also sworn in at the same venue in March this year.

The Deputy Governor pledged to support Governor Mutuma to ensure that their leadership serves the residents of Meru County without discrimination or favour.

The newly sworn-in Deputy Governor was a running mate to former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in the Meru gubernatorial election during the 2022 general election.

Recently, Kiome served as the Vice-Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection Panel.

In the course of her legal career, Kiome was at one time acting President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and chaired the LSK Mt. Kenya caucus.
