MOI UNIVERSITY ISSUES REDUNDANCY LETTERS
Moi University has issued redundancy letters to 800 of employees in a “right sizing exercise”. In a notice to the staff, acting Deputy Vice chancellor, Loice Maru noted that the move is due to financial challenges across all departments.
The notice cited Section 40 of the Employment Act, 2007 and the provisions of the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement as the guiding principles.
The notice further indicated that following a thorough review of the University’s operational needs and financial sustainability, some positions have been affected by the redundancy process.
Affected employees are entitled to receive all terminal benefits .The staff are required to collect letters from designated department this week. In response to the redundancies the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has told affected members to share their employment history as it seeks to reverse the move. UASU had filled a suit in court protesting the University’s plans to downsize its workers.
