THREE SENIOR NYS OFFICIALS ON THE SPOT OVER GRAFT ALLEGATIONS

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday searched the residences and offices of three senior officials at the National Youth Service and their proxies over allegations of conflict of interest and abuse of office procurement of tenders worth two billion shillings. The suspects who later recorded statements at the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi are accused of trading with NYS through various companies between the Financial Years 2019/2020 and 2024/2025. According to the EACC, the suspects allegedly abused their positions of trust and authority to embezzle public funds through collusion, procurement fraud and payment for fictitious contracts. The anti-Graft body identified the suspects as: Nicholas J Makokha, who is the Deputy Commandant General of operations and Logistics at NYS, Joseph Maina Kagiri, Camp accountant at Gilgil Paramilitary Academy, David Muthee Mbogo, Head of Supply Chain Management at the Gilgil Paramilitary Academy, his two spouses, Felista Wanjiru Wandugi and Winfred Cherotich Towett, his brother Elias Muthee and proxy Naftali Kaberu. The other person of interest are Kaberu’s wife Florence Muthoni Karanja.
EACC said the operations hasd yielded valuable evidentiary material that will support the ongoing investigations whose outcome will inform appropriate action including prosecution of any culpable persons and/or recovery of unexplained wealth or proceeds of corruption.
