KENYA MOURNS RAILA

Kenyans across the country are mourning the death of the second Prime minister of independent Kenya, Raila Amollo Odinga who passed on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in India.

President William Ruto has since declared 7 days of national mourning with flags across the country being flown at half mast in honor of his death.During his address at Statehouse the president also suspended all his public engagement and asked all other public servants to do the same.

Raila was one of the most influential opposition leaders in Kenya who despite five unsuccessful bids at the presidency,he has managed to work with successive governments since 1997 through the famous “handshake”.

Raila’s body is expected in Kenya today from India (Thursday) ahead of his burial at his home in Bondo Kisumu . Raila had an enduring political legacy as a democracy activists having been at the center of the fight for multipartism in Kenya and also played a key role in delivering the constitution of Kenya 2010.
