Kibingoti TVC Infrastructure Project Reaches 60 Per Cent Completion

An infrastructure development project at Kibingoti Vocational Training Centre (TVC) in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County, has reached 60 per cent completion, raising hopes of improved facilities and expanded access to technical and vocational training for young people in the area. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Safaricom M-PESA Foundation as part of efforts to strengthen vocational training infrastructure and equip learners with practical skills relevant to the job market.

The development includes an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, administration block, masonry and automotive workshops, kitchen and ablution block, among other facilities. A team from the Kirinyaga County Assembly, led by Speaker Muteti Murimi, inspected the project to assess its progress and quality of work.

During the inspection, the team noted that most of the major construction works had been completed, with landscaping, equipping of the ICT laboratory and other finishing works remaining before the facility becomes fully operational.

Speaking during the inspection, Speaker Muteti Murimi commended the progress and quality of workmanship at the construction site.

“I commend the progress and quality of workmanship and urge consideration of complementary improvements to some of the existing facilities,” said Muteti.

The project has also created employment opportunities for residents, with more than 60 people from the surrounding community securing jobs during the construction phase.

Members of the County Assembly accompanying the Speaker also participated in a tree-planting exercise within the institution, integrating environmental conservation into the ongoing infrastructure development.

Kibingoti Market Nears Completion

The county assembly team also inspected Kibingoti Market, another major infrastructure project in the area being implemented by the National Government under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP). The market is currently approximately 98 per cent complete and is expected to accommodate about 200 traders once operational.

The facility is designed to provide traders with a more organized and conducive environment while supporting increased commercial activity in Kibingoti. It will also feature an ICT hub, giving traders and residents access to digital services and technology. The inclusion of the digital facility is expected to improve connectivity, support access to online services and create additional opportunities for young people and local businesses.

The two projects are expected to contribute to the local economy through job creation, improved technical training, increased commercial activity and enhanced access to digital services. For Kibingoti TVC, the completion of the new facilities could provide trainees with a more modern learning environment while strengthening the institution’s capacity to produce skilled workers for the region’s evolving labour market.
