The national government will spend Sh21 billion on infrastructure development under the Affordable Housing Project in Kilifi County this year, according to the County Director of Housing, Moses Kiptui.
Speaking during the site handover ceremony for the construction of 340 housing units at the Weru Vocational Training College (TVC) in Baolala, Malindi Sub-County, Mr. Kiptui said the county will benefit from 11 affordable housing projects comprising 8,036 housing units at a total cost of Sh18 billion.

He added that eight educational institutions, including Pwani University and several local TVCs, will receive student hostel facilities to accommodate 4,380 students for Sh1.8 billion, while 11 modern markets will be constructed across the county for Sh560 million.
Mr. Kiptui noted that some of the projects are already underway, while others are at the design and procurement stages, assuring residents and stakeholders that implementation is progressing as planned.
He further disclosed that the hostel project at Weru TVC, located in Langobaya Division, will cost Sh159.5 million. The facility will comprise five-storey blocks designed to accommodate 340 students, and will also include study rooms, shops, a mini-market, and food kiosks to enhance student welfare and learning conditions.
According to Mr. Kiptui, many TVCs in Kilifi County are currently experiencing low student enrolment due to limited accommodation, highlighting the importance of hostel development in expanding access to vocational education and skills training.
Local leaders attending the handover ceremony welcomed the projects, noting their potential to boost enrolment in vocational institutions, support youth skills development, and stimulate local economic activity.
The Affordable Housing Project at Weru TVC forms part of broader efforts to strengthen technical and vocational education infrastructure, improve student living conditions, and create employment opportunities during and after construction.
