The government has reaffirmed commitment to quality and integrity in healthcare, through full implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA) model to facilitate provision of dignified, efficient, and safe care.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale who met the leadership of private hospitals, emphasized the enforcement of the bed capacity rule, urging providers to update their bed numbers with the Kenya Medical Pharmacists and Dentists Council (KMPDC) to align with SHA reimbursement protocols. Duale noted “Integrity and service quality must go hand in hand.” He added that any facility public or private that abuses the system or compromises care quality will be shut down.
The Cabinet Secretary cautioned against misuse of OTP pre-authorization codes, saying such actions erode public trust in SHA and the broader healthcare system.
He also announced ongoing consultations to harmonize licensing and ease the burden of regulatory compliance, including reforming Single Business Permit processes.
