COURT ALLOWS MOTHER OF MAULED DAUGHTER TO BURY HER
The commercial Magistrate Court in Milimani on Thursday allowed the mother of a 13-year old Kajiado girl killed by a lion to bury her remains in Kitui County eight days after the burial was stopped.
The court ruling by Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi ended the seven days burial site standoff between the deceased biological father Kenneth Kipkemei Kigen against the deceased mother Ms Elizabeth Mawia Katumbi
On 30th 2025,the court issued a temporary order freezing the funeral of the grade seven learner ,Peace Mwende ,initially slated for Thursday May 1 2025 at Kakeyani village, Kitui West Sub County awaiting further court directions.
The plaintiff had pleaded with the court to issue a temporary injunction restraining the defendant from burying the remains of Peace Mwende pending the interparty hearing of the application. He had also asked the court to grant him rights to participate in his daughter’s burial arrangements and a paternity DNA to be carried out.
Senior Magistrate, Agnes Mwangi, allowed the plaintiff to attend and participate in the funeral. Both parties were also ordered to share the burial expenses equally. Peace Mwende was killed by a lioness at Savannah ranch servant’s quarters in Tuala village, Kajiado East Sub County on 19th April this year.
